Self-exclusion and cooling-off
Self-exclusion is the last tool in the set of player controls and the only one that does not depend on your willpower at the moment it would be hardest to exercise. This page explains how it differs from an ordinary break, the order of steps before activation, and what actually changes afterwards. The lighter tools — deposit, stake and time limits — are covered on the responsible gambling page.
Three levels, not one
- Cooling-off — a short period, from days to weeks, during which the account is inaccessible. It ends by itself, with no request needed. This is the right tool when you want distance rather than a rupture.
- Self-exclusion with the operator — a long period, chosen at activation, during which the account stays closed at that operator. It cannot be lifted before term.
- Extended self-exclusion — registration in the self-exclusion register maintained in connection with ONJN, the supervisory authority in Romania. Its effect goes beyond a single operator, which is the answer for anyone who knows the problem is not solved by closing one account and opening another.
What to do before activating
Order matters, because once the measure is live the account is out of reach and anything left unfinished becomes complicated.
What changes afterwards
Login stops working, deposits are refused and marketing communication has to end. The account is not deleted — records are retained, because the operator has obligations in that respect — but it becomes unusable for play. A new account opened with the same details during the exclusion period is normally identified and closed, with any bonuses voided; circumventing the measure with altered details breaches the terms and turns a protective tool into grounds for a dispute.
Why it cannot be reversed
Because a measure reversible on request would be reversed at exactly the moment it is most needed. The whole mechanism rests on a decision made when calm that stays in force when the head is hot. The same logic explains why raising a limit carries a waiting period while lowering one is instant: the system deliberately makes movement harder in one direction only.
When it expires
The account does not always reopen automatically; some operators require an explicit request, occasionally with an additional reflection period. Treat it as a new decision rather than a return to how things were: if the reason you activated the measure has not changed, reopening the account will not change it either.
What this site cannot do
We cannot activate, extend or lift a self-exclusion, we have no access to accounts, and we cannot confirm anyone's entry in a register. We publish no help-line numbers: the list of active services is published by licensed operators in their responsible gambling sections and by ONJN, and a contact copied inaccurately from a third-party site is more harmful than none. What we can do is describe the procedure and the right order of steps.
For people around a bettor
Self-exclusion is activated by the account holder; nobody can request it for someone else. What helps from outside is concrete information — that the tool exists, where it sits in the account, what it involves — delivered without reproach. A conversation that opens with an accusation usually ends in the behaviour being hidden rather than stopped.
